Finished this ages ago but had been deferring listing it on Etsy until I had the 2nd (knitting only) shop up and running. Took photos using Linda the Eyeless as a model and did the listing yesterday. Am rather proud of this hood ...
It is my own pattern - the design inspired by some vintage patterns - knitting c. 1950s for a simple hood with scarf ends & crochet 1940s patterns for lovely befrilled and shaped headscarves (interestingly the patterns called them Fascinators). I also wanted to make something that pulls on over the head and sits about the neck like many of the modern knitted cowls and "scarflettes".
The yarn is my own hand-spun, lovely strong colours that remind me of the Great Barrier Reef (cobalt blue sea, gorgeously coloured corals, flashes of silvery fish ...) I was aiming for long lengths of colour in the variegations. The wool is really soft to handle too - quite lovely.
But I really like the shape/s I managed to get in this and will be using the pattern again :-) Love the romantic way the hood falls about the face - with the frilling it is very pretty and flattering and I really love the little "pixie" point to the top of the hood (shouldn't all hoods have one?) Most of the shaping is done with short-rowing - my favourite knitting technique at the moment.

I'm Back
Back from the "holiday" and needing another to recover!
Did get some crafting done ... knitting and tatting (you can tat on planes - they will confiscate knitting needles as being dangerous weapons but tatting shuttles are OK).
Here is some of the tatting - I'm not very good at tatting yet and get mysterious twisted bits but I'm pleased with this.
No I'm NOT making a doiley or even a "glass mat" as per the pattern, I'm adapting to make something for my Blythe doll, Lillian. Like her name-sake Lillian Gish, my Lillian is a star of stage & screen and this red lace is to be part of a Spanish inspired costume! wonder if I can manage to tat a shawl as well?
I have also, finally, set up a 2nd shop on Etsy. My main shop was getting too large and messy (I make and sell such a wide array of items, it was looking quite untidy) - so now I have a 2nd shop - just for my hand-knitted items and related things. Here is the link Lyndell Knits.

Going Interstate
A short post because I'm busy sorting things out and packing; we are going interstate tomorrow to visit relies and will be away for 11 days.
I'll have to put my on-line shops On Vacation and I'll be missing far-too-many Millinery classes but I'm looking forward to seeing some of the family AND I'll be taking lots of knitting projects. When I travel, my suitcase is usually half full of knitting yarns, patterns and needles ... have this fear of running out of things to make!
Have also been doing some finishing :-) this wee dress / top is for a friend's baby girl.
